Table of sounds

From The Works of Living World @ STARNET ZONE (Mashiko, 2005)

The sounds which Sound Bum (1999 -), the tour project that travels the world listening to sounds, traveled the world to hear in a table.

The tablecloth features a map of the world…

…rendered in embroidery, with location names stamped here and there. At a glance, it looks like a regular table.

By placing one of the cup-like speakers on any of the locations, sounds from that location are heard. The cup functions much like a stethoscope.
The sound design is the work of Yoshihiro Kawasaki.

We were thrilled to see visitors taking leisurely trips around the world.
Azan at a mosque in Iran, the underwater cries of orca in the North Pacific, the sound of the Trans-Siberian Railway, the din of a Parisian market…

Sounds instantly carry us off to faraway places.
