Waiting for the wind

From The works of Living World @ STARNET ZONE (Mashiko, 2006)

The highlight of our summer 2006 exhibition: sounds generated in real time upon sensing the movements of the wind.

In 2005, Living World collaborated with GK TECH, Satoru Sugihara and others to create liv-lit, illumination on the top of the Kansai Electric Power Company building that reflects the wind’s movements.

As an extension of that project, we teamed up with the composer Kyo Ichinose to produce a sound system that generates sounds spontaneously in response to live data derived from the wind. Those sounds form the background music in the KEPCO building’s third-floor lounge: live concerts everyday performed by the wind.

“Waiting for the Wind” is based on that system, restructured and tuned to the STARNET gallery space.
