Starry Day

From The Works of Living World @ STARNET ZONE (Mashiko, 2005)

A planetarium-like map of the stars floats on the glass door facing the garden. During the day, the stars twinkle with the light from outdoors.

In the photograph there appears to be a gaping hole right through the garden leading to outer space.

The map depicts the starry sky at noon on the summer solstice. These are the positions of the stars we see when we gaze up at the night sky in winter, with Orion there near center.
It is beyond the photon-filled daytime sky of summer that these stars unfold now.
